While many Whitsunday islands are still reeling from the impact of Cyclone Debbie, Hamilton Island is already regenerating new life. Just as green shoots are beginning to appear on the branches of trees stripped by the wild weather, Hamilton Island staff have gone above and beyond to restore the island to its former glory.

Tropical Cyclone Debbie hit the Whitsunday region hard and unfortunately Hamilton Island was not spared from her destructive force. However, due to the resorts’ construction to the highest cyclone safety ratings, her impact on the island has been fairly minimal. The main damage has been to the vegetation and façade of the island, with no significant structural damage to any of the hotels or resorts. Following a concerted clean-up effort, Hamilton Island is looking forward to welcoming its guests back. With the gardens team already planting new greenery all across the island, Hamilton assures guests that the sun is still shining, the island is still beautiful and you will still enjoy a wonderful holiday on Hamilton.

The recently held Super League Triathlon not only attracted some of the world’s fittest athletes to the shores of Hamilton Island, it also attracted the attention of the world. Thanks to global television coverage of the event, the world was introduced to the beautiful Whitsundays and Hamilton Island chief executive officer Glenn Bourke couldn't have been happier.

Back in 2009 you may recall a competition that was run, offering the opportunity to become the caretaker of Hamilton Island. 34,000 applicants entered themselves in the running for the dream job which would see them swap their office for an island paradise on the Great Barrier Reef. 42 year old Ben Southall from Petersfield, Hampshire in England landed the caretaker job on Hamilton Island and eight years on, he's just gone and bagged himself an even dreamier job.

The 72nd edition of the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race is just 8 weeks away and Australia's first family of yacht racing has their sights firmly set on bringing home a win. Robert Oatley and his family are a household name in Australia and their yacht Wild Oats XI is the unprecedented eight-time winner of the famously gruelling Sydney Hobart Yacht Race. However this year will be the first year the Oatley family have undertaken the famous race without their beloved patriarch after Bob Oatley passed away in January of this year.

From Friday 6 May to Monday 9 May, two Olympic stars, Eloise Wellings and Libby Trickett, visited Hamilton Island for the annual Mother's Day Classis and Active Women's weekend. Joining a raft of presenters on the popular Queensland island, Trickett and Wellings were part of an exciting weekend that aimed to encourage women of all ages to lead an active lifestyle while raising much-needed funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

A Hamilton Island couple have piqued interest in the southern states, after finishing 18th in the Targa Tasmania TSD Trophy category in one of Australia's most famous tarmac-based rally driving events. The second time the couple has raced in the event, wife Gail was comfortable as co-driver, providing pace notes to driver and husband Bruce during the six day challenge.

Entries are now open for the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week 2016 and already entrants are flooding in. If the initial burst is any indicator of what to expect, it appears this year's regatta will be rather special. In fact, almost 40 yachts representative of the sport's diverse cross section have already nominated for the 33rd staging of the series. If this momentum continues, entries will soon surge well beyond 50, a milestone which would suggest a final fleet of approximately 200 is likely for the event.

Audi Hamilton Island Race Week is always a massive affair on Hamilton Island, this year along with hosting the Australian Yachting Championships for Grand Prix level offshore keelboats, the sailing festival will also be the venue for the first Australian Yachting Championship for multihulls. The move is the first time that Yachting Australia, the sport's governing body, has coordinated a large multihull major championship.

Following a remarkable endorsement from Sir David Attenborough, the most famous naturalist in the world has said the reef is the most memorable place he's been.
